Gamemode Tier List

This is an opinionated S-C list of untitled tag game modes. It is not a patch note and not a popularity poll. The question is simple: does the mode let a player who studied movement and maps beat someone who only sprints? If yes, it climbs. If the round is decided by a bomb timer, a random Chaos mix, or a team pile, it drops.

Public servers show three mode cards each round. Vote with this table, then open the gamemodes guide for rules and codes if a patch dropped coins. Tagging is always left click or a tap; the mode decides whether you swap, convert, or eliminate. No Tag Back stops an instant reverse tag. Tag streaks (hot streak at 10, blazing trail at 25, and higher) only matter if you are not feeding the same runner twice.

Read the Tier List Hub for the same criteria applied to maps. Role pages: runner, tagger, special roles.

S-tier: Classic, Crown, Infected

Classic is the mode the recode was built to host. A few players start as taggers; the rest are runners. A tag swaps the roles. Runners who are still runners when the timer ends win. There is no bomb, no infection snowball, and no team scoreboard to hide behind. If you lose, you mistimed a roll, took a bad zipline, or let a tagger cut the only stairs on Crossroads. That is why Classic is S. Practise it on Glass Houses and Rocket Arena until your movement is automatic.

Crown is keepaway at high speed. About 13% of the lobby spawn with a crown; everyone else is a peasant. Peasants tag crowns to steal the role. Crowns win by still wearing it at the buzzer. The skill floor is higher than Classic because you must hold space, not just survive. High ground on Rocket Arena or a glass house roof is only safe if you can leave it. A crown who camps a dead end is a gift. A crown who fall-swings into a new lane and leaves the peasant on a zipline is S-tier play. Solo Crown misprints raise the stakes further (one crown, bigger reward) but the public card is already the exam.

Infected is the clutch. One patient zero converts runners into infected; infected keep converting. If time expires, remaining runners win. If the lobby is painted green, the horde wins. A survivor who never gets isolated is the whole story — that is the same skill as Classic, under more pressure. Patient zero should cut mid and force runners off S-tier maps into hallways. Runners should split, not clump. Mid-round joins become infected, so a late fill can flip a hold. That snowball is why Infected stays S instead of sliding into “just a convert mode.”

A-tier: Bomb, Freeze, Team Swap

Bomb still swaps on tag, but the bomb player is on a fuse. Pass it or explode. The last runner standing is the survivor achievement path. Movement still matters — you juke the bomb the same way you juke a tagger — yet a beautiful fall swing that takes two seconds too long will kill you. Hot Potato and RNG Bomb misprints add noise. Rank Bomb A: great chase, timer steals a few reads.

Freeze splits the lobby into freezers and runners. A freezer tag freezes the victim in place; frozen players lose health until a runner tags them thaw. Fail the thaw and they become a chiller who hunts with the freezers. Frozen bodies also knock people around, which is a real tool if you stand in a doorway on Bloxburg. Freeze is A because the objective is excellent (save your teammate) but a perfect 1v1 juke can still lose the round if nobody thaws the pile. Team Freeze misprints add colors on top.

Team Swap is convert-tag with a scoreboard. Tag someone and they join your color. The team with more bodies at the end wins. You still need to cut routes, but a three-person convert train can overwhelm a better mover. Four-way and six-way variants are even noisier. A, not S: parkour is required, the count can override it.

B-tier: Competitive, FFA, TDM, Juggernaut, Slasher

Competitive looks like Classic until you notice health. Tagged runners lose a chunk; dying taggers must find another victim fast. Chip damage rewards raw hit rate over a stylish juke. Still worth playing, just not the identity of the recode.

FFA (and its Alone role) is last-player-standing. Everyone can tag everyone. Elimination, not swap. The map becomes a deathmatch arena. TDM does the same with red and blue. Both are honest Roblox fights. They sit in B because they measure aim-adjacent tagging, not parkour identity. Play them when the lobby is sweaty or when you want coins fast.

Juggernaut gives a few players decaying health and a multi-hit tag. Hunters chip the juggernaut; the juggernaut farms hunters to live. Slasher drops the lights, limits survivor vision, and asks slashers to finish lives. Both are strong event energy (Combat Initiation DNA lives in Initiation/King and in Slasher/Juggernaut) and both dilute the Classic loop. B for nights when you want a boss, not a chase.

C-tier: Chaos and toys

Chaos assigns mixed roles from the rest of the pool. You might be a bomb next to a crown next to a freezer. It is the best private-server party mode and a terrible rank metric. Misprints (Disguised Classic, Speed Classic, Hot Potato, Mutant Infected, Haunted Slasher) are spice. Private-server and collab toys — Initiation (kill the King), Hide and Seek, Slap For All / Slaparena — exist to celebrate events, not to seed a ladder.

Toxic is a special case: toxics lose HP on a timer and swap with runners. It entered rotation after April Fools 2025 and came back as a regular card in 2026. Treat it like Bomb’s mean cousin: A-adjacent chase, C-adjacent chaos depending on the lobby. Default rank: play it, do not build your identity on it.

How to use the list in a real server

Vote Classic or Crown when you want to test a new roll or a new Crossroads line. Vote Infected when you want to practise being hunted. Vote Bomb or Freeze with friends who will actually thaw. Vote Chaos when the voice chat is on. After two rounds, pick an S-tier map so the mode you voted can actually breathe.

If a June-style revert pulls a mechanic, do not shuffle the whole table. Classic remains S even if a slide boost feels weaker for a week. Recheck updates and keep grinding the same three S modes until the next real rules change.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Why is Classic S if it is the simplest mode?

Simple rules, hard reads. A swap with No Tag Back is the cleanest test of movement and map knowledge. Complexity is not the same as skill.

Why are FFA and TDM only B?

They are fair and popular, but elimination and team deathmatch hide parkour. Last-alive is a brawl. Rank nights should still prefer Classic, Crown, or Infected.

Where does Chaos belong if every role can appear?

C for ranking, S for parties. Track whatever special role you rolled and play that objective. Do not use Chaos to judge a player.

Is Bomb worse than Classic because of the timer?

The chase is similar, but the fuse punishes a long juke. That is an A-tier tax, not a reason to skip the mode. See special roles for bomb-handling.

Should I vote misprints on purpose?

Only if you want the joke. Speed Classic and Hot Potato are C-tier on purpose. Use the Triple Vote stacking effect if you need to see the glitch card before you lock it.

How does this list pair with the map list?

S modes on S maps (Classic on Crossroads) is the full exam. S modes on C maps waste the vote. Read the map tier list before the two-round map vote.
